Lakewood's Union Blvd. Corridor Study: Have Your Say Now

The City of Lakewood asks residents to tell the city what you think of 13 different transportation projects for Union Blvd. before Oct. 31

LAKEWOOD, CO -- Do you stroll Union Blvd. to eat lunch during work? Do you get stranded in the middle of the street crossing near the Federal Center light rail station? The City of Lakewood is asking residents for their input into 13 proposed transportation projects in and around Union Blvd. to improve traffic flow and pedestrian and bike access. The study runs through the end of October.

The survey is updated from a May survey about the Union corridor, which was answered by 374 people, according to the city website. Projects on the table include doubling turning lanes, adding pedestrian crossings, extending certain roads, constructing and repairing sidewalks throughout the city and others.

Lakewood asks citizens to vote on proposals HERE. According to current tallies, voters have said that double eastbound turning lanes onto 6th Avenue and extending Routt Street over to 6th Avenue are gaining the most support.

"We don’t know exactly what to expect over the next 20 years, so we will develop three future scenarios and a list of projects to prepare for the future," the city's website said about the Union Blvd. Corridor project. The three options are:

  • Auto-Oriented Scenario
  • Mixed Mode Scenario
  • Alternative Mode Scenario

The city has held several stakeholder events (usually mandated by federal law if federal funds are to be used for street improvements.)
