Man Killed, Woman Critically Injured In Lakewood Shooting

LAKEWOOD, CO — A 21-year-old man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a shooting Monday night near Colfax and Sheridan in Lakewood, police said. The woman remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers responded at about 1 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the 1500 block of Depew Street, according to the Lakewood Police Department. Upon their arrival, the officers found the man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital, where the man later died. He's been identified as Roderick Vecchiarelli, 21, of Denver, according to police. The woman's identity has not been released.

Witnesses reported seeing a white hatchback fleeing the area of the shooting, police said. The car crashed near Sloan's Lake, and two people were arrested by Edgewater police.

Danny Carter, 36, of Denver, faces first degree murder and aggravated robbery charges, Lakewood police said. A woman who was in the car with Carter was also taken into custody, but she is not facing charges, police said.
