Here are the top five stories in Lakewood today:
- Denver City Council votes 10-3 in favor of massive airport $1.3bn contracts. The approval paves the way to complete the long-delayed upgrade to the Great Hall. The plan's aim is to accommodate more passengers and modernize check-in areas, including a new security checkpoint at the airport. This will take the renovation's final cost well over $2 billion. Those council members voting against the massive spending bill suggested that the process behind the contracts was not transparent enough. (Denverite)
- Residents feel 'lucky' with what they have, but those that lost their homes in the Marshall fire are struggling to figure out the future. With thousands displaced, many Louisville and Superior residents worry that they won't be able to find any housing in the area to accommodate them, and for so many families with school-aged children, finding affordable housing in the same school district will likely be a challenge. - Colorado Governor outlines top legislative priorities for 2022. Colorado's soaring cost of living and rising crime top a list of priorities outlined by Gov. Jared Polis for the 2022 legislative session that begins tomorrow. (US News)

- Let the water wars begin - Nebraska plans to spend $500M to claim water from Colorado. Nebraska is planning to invoke its rights under the South Platte River Compact as Colorado's plans for the river could reduce water flows into Nebraska by as much as 90 percent, impacting the state's agricultural industries, as well as water supplies in Omaha and Lincoln.
