Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Denver restaurants are moving to the suburbs because "Downtown Denver is dead." Suburbanites rejoice. Restaurant owners are making the transition from pricey downtown addresses and spreading their wings across metro Denver. Restaurateurs like Jeff Osaka, Alex Seidel and Juan Padro have announced new locations in Lakewood, Broomfield and Westminster. (Burlington Record)
  2. Many home buyers have "officially" given up on ever owning a home in Denver. It's hard to find housing in Denver. Some have given up entirely, or they are moving somewhere more affordable. (Denverite)
  3. Trees planted in cities are sucking carbon out of the atmosphere. Two studies have found that city trees grow faster than country trees, and that soil in urban areas absorbs more carbon dioxide than previously thought. Bottomline, we can make cities more livable by planting more trees. (PHYS.ORG)
  4. School districts across the state are ditching mask mandates. Districts around the state have begun dropping mask requirements as public health departments have lifted their mandates. (CO Sun)
  5. States and feds working on plan to save Lake Powell. Colorado and other states are working on a plan to keep Lake Powell's levels above 3,525 feet - in hopes of avoiding federal emergency actions. If the reservoir drops below that level, it will threaten power generation and water-sharing agreements. (CPR)
