Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Getting a small ski area's lift restarted in southern Colorado rests on one final permit. Cuchara Mountain Park's supporting nonprofit, Panadero Ski Corporation, has been working to fund and fix a 40-year-old ski lift on the mountain, and says it needs one last permit to turn it on. (Gazette)
  2. Colfax BRT plan inching forward that someday may even connect to Lakewood. The City of Denver is hoping to move its long-planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on Colfax to the top of its transportation list. (Denverite)
  3. Boy who saved friends at Crystal Lake, dies. Three middle school-aged children had fallen through the ice last Wednesday, and that is reportedly when Dyllan Whittenburg, 14, jumped in to get them out, but died on Thanksgiving day after being submerged under the ice himself. (CBS4)
  4. The pandemic wreaked havoc on the ski industry. Aspen Skiing Co. hopes for return of the good old days, or just getting back to normal after three crazy years dealing with a global pandemic. (Aspen Daily News)
  5. Over the past year, the City of Denver has only created around 900 affordable housing units. Despite having a massive $220 million dollar budget for 2022 alone, the Department of Housing Stability (HOST) over the course of the past year, has only been able to deliver less than 1,000 units. This in the face of a 65,000+ shortage of affordable units. (Denverite)
