Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:
- Apples collected from Lakewood backyards are feeding hungry people. Grow Local Colorado volunteers have been gathering fruit from across the metro area as part of the nonprofit's goal of feeding the regions hungry masses with locally grown fruit. (Denverite)
- Colorado's minimum wage set to increase this coming January. Colorado's minimum wage will increase by nearly a dollar per hour as part of a constitutional amendment that was passed by voters in 2017, which required the state to have minimum wage to $12 per hour by 2020. After that, the minimum wage is indexed to the federal Consumer Price Index (CPI), and beginning in January, the hourly minimum will be $13.65. (North Forty News)
- Owners of a pit bull that attacked a woman and child in Golden to face charges. Kayla Mooney, 33, and Victor Bentley, 29, the alleged owners of the pitbull that attacked Bently's mom and their son, are facing multiple counts of unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog. (7News)
- State of Colorado has $6 million for those rebuilding after Marshall Fire. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will allow the State of Colorado to distribute $6 million to victims of the Marshall Fire, bypassing the requirement that Boulder County administer the funds. The Community Development Block Grant funds are available to those that are rebuilding after last year's Marshal Fire. (Out There)
- Customer finds an ash-filled urn at an Aurora carwash. Matt Bergman, the owner of Happy Henry's Car Wash, was out of town when the urn was left behind but did retrieve a video of a white male in a reddish Pontiac with no front license plate leaving it behind. Aurora Police were dispatched and took the item into evidence. (Patch)
