Power Outage At Lakewood Facility Ruins 165 Vaccine Doses

Many doses of COVID-19 vaccine were lost in a power outage at Kaiser Permanente's Lakewood facility.

LAKEWOOD, CO — This week's high winds caused an overnight power outage that ruined 165 doses of the Moderna vaccine at the Kaiser Permanente Lakewood Medical Offices.

The outage caused a refrigerator to exceed the recommended storage temperature required by federal and local health officials, the facility said.

The medical center notified state health officials immediately and worked to safely administer as many doses of the vaccine as possible, according to a statement from Kaiser Permanente.

"To date, we’ve provided more than 12,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to eligible Coloradans, including members, employees in long-term care facilities and those who have direct contact with COVID-19 patients, frontline health care workers from our community, among others."
