Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:
- After the Fire: Some may decide to sell instead of moving back. Residents that lost their homes in the Marshall Fire have a difficult task ahead to rebuild. Some are choosing to list their land for sale instead. Several lots have already been put up for sale within the past month – one is listed at almost $800k. (9News)
- $240M USGS facility to be constructed at School of Mines. A state-of-the-art facility for the United States Geological Survey is planned on the Colorado School of Mines campus. Colorado has secured $167 million in federal funding to kick the project off, but still needs to find $73 million to complete it. (FOX31)
- Louisville voters will decide the fate of Redtail Ridge. Voting against the plan that was approved by city council won't stop the development. It just reverts the land to a less environmentally-friendly version that was developed for the site when ConocoPhillips owned the land. (Hometown News)
- Snow expected later today with extreme temperature drop to follow. A powerful arctic cold front is moving into the area late in the morning or early afternoon. Temperatures will drop 40-60 degrees after a high of 63 on Sunday. (CBS4)
- Service dogs in high demand. Those fluffy friends that are specially trained to help their humans are not cheap. It costs between $15,000 to $40,000 for a fully trained service dog, and is not typically covered by health insurance. (CO Sun)
