The quickest way to get caught up on the important things happening in Lakewood today.

(Patch Media)

Hello, hello! It's me, Brad K. Evans, your host of the Lakewood Daily. Keep reading to find out the most important things going on around town. Today we'll cover these stories and more:

  • Colorado could become the second state to end subsides for natural gas connections.
  • Cloud seeding plans are in the works in Colorado as mega-drought continues.
  • Metro Denver could see its first snow fall today.

Thursday's weather: A couple of morning showers. High: 46 Low: 27.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Lakewood who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Lakewood Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Testing shows that Colorado students continue to struggle after the pandemic. Teachers across the state are helping students in math proficiency and helping them improve their reading proficiency which saw sharp declines in testing scores during the pandemic. (KUSA)
  2. Plans forming to expand cloud seeding programs this winter. As the water crisis in the west continues to get worse, the Saint Vrain Headwaters Conservancy is planning to spray silver iodide into the clouds in hopes of producing extra snow by seeding them. (9News)
  3. Colorado considering ending subsidized natural gas connections. State regulators are considering a plan that would encourage builders to not install natural gas furnaces and stoves as a way to combat climate change. California already has these kinds of measures in effect and Colorado would be only the second state to pursue it. (CPR)
  4. It must be close to Halloween. Snow is forecast for this week. Metro Denver could see its first snow fall as early as Thursday. Forecasters are calling for a dusting of snow Thursday morning, but no large accumulations are expected. (FOX31)

In partnership with T-Mobile:

Nominate a local hero. Heroes aren't just the people behind grand gestures and life-saving measures. They're also folks from all walks of life who make things better in Lakewood with small gestures, acts of selflessness, or just by showing up. We're working with our friends at T-Mobile to give thanks — and a bit of recognition — to some of these folks. So, if you know a teacher, health care provider, veteran or someone else who's making a difference in Lakewood, give them a shoutout! Just fill out this form, and we'll do the rest, by following up and doing stories about them on Patch, so the whole neighborhood can celebrate how awesome they are.

  • Keep your cars locked up and the keys with you. Nearly 25 percent of vehicle thefts in Lakewood could have been potentially avoided had the driver just removed the key or fob from the car? Would be criminals look for simple things like this when stealing cars? (Lakewood Police Department)
  • The 2022-23 ski season is officially underway. The spinning of the lifts also signifies another winter of Flight For Life Colorado partnering with Colorado mountain resorts. (Flight For Life)
  • Are you enjoying the new playground at Addenbrooke Park? Send a photo and tell the City of Lakewood about your photo and the fun you're having at the park. You'll be entered in a drawing to win a prize package! Make sure to send before the end of the month. (Lakewood)
