Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:

  1. State House District 28 representative, Kerry Tipper, nominated as Denver City Attorney. Kerry Tipper served two terms as Lakewood HD28 representative in the Colorado House and as served as the Denver Assistant City attorney since last May and has now been nominated to the top post.   2. Metro Denver has the highest number of thefts by porch pirates. The metro area was number one in the U.S. for package thefts, according to SafeWise's recent report. In 2021, Denver area edged out San Francisco for the title. Denver police have had reports of more than 939 packages stolen this year. (7News)
  3. Colorado's gas prices are lower than U.S. average. If high gas prices are bringing you down, at least it's cheaper to fill up you tank in Colorado. The average today in Colorado is $3.71 per gallon, while nationally prices are $3.91 and up. (FOX31)
  4. Recent survey indicates metro area veteran homelessness down. Metro Denver Homeless Initiative study indicates that the number of homeless veterans in metro Denver has decreased more than 30 percent since 2020. (CO Sun)
  5. Lack of housing and drug addiction fueling Colorado's high number of auto thefts. The Common Sense Institute's study shows that the link between homelessness and drug addiction are what has fueled the high number of car thefts in Colorado. Jefferson County Drug Court has been working to helpful address the needs of repeats offenders by providing housing and money. (News Press)
