4 To Graduate From Arapahoe County Veterans Treatment Court

From CO State: Four participants in the Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District (Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties) are expected to graduate from the program during a ceremony at the Arapahoe County Justice Center on Dec. 14, 2018.

The ceremony, set for Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in Division 14, is part of the celebration of Veterans Day.

“We commend our 40 current and past graduates for their service to this country and for their commitment to this program,” said District Judge Bonnie McLean, who presides over the program. “These graduates demonstrate that Veterans Treatment Courts continue to fulfill their mission to make our communities safer and save the lives of our veterans.”

Like other problem-solving courts, the Veterans Treatment Court ensures community safety while holding participants accountable for their actions and providing them the treatment needed to help rebuild their lives. Participants in the voluntary program agree to actively engage in treatment and counseling, make regular court appearances, and are intensively supervised.

Eligible military veterans with trauma spectrum disorders and/or substance use disorders may be moved to the Veterans Treatment Court based on decisions made by a team including personnel from the 18th Judicial District courts and Probation Department, prosecutors, public defenders, local law enforcement, treatment professionals and others. The Veterans Treatment Court is one of nearly 80 problem-solving courts operating in Colorado.
