Jeffco Deputies Searching For Man Wanted In Child Luring Case

JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — At least eight schools were on lockout Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson County while deputies searched for a man who faces child luring charges. The lockouts remained in place until students' regular dismissal times, Jeffco Public Schools said.

The schools that were under the lockout include Columbine High School, Columbine Hills Elementary School, Normandy Elementary, Leawood Elementary, Dutch Creek Elementary, Ken Caryl Middle School, Blue Heron Elementary and Coronado Elementary, district officials said.

Michael Anthony Simms, 32, is wanted in connection with a child luring and attempted sexual assault case, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies tried to meet up with Simms near West Chatfield Avenue and South Pierce Street, but he took off running, the sheriff's office said.

"We do not believe there is a threat to the public," the sheriff's office said in a social media post.

Simms is described as 5'9, 180 pounds with dark skin, deputies said. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jeans near West Chatfield Avenue and South Pierce Street.
