- Embrace a Heart-Healthy Diet - Focus on eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Limit refined sugars, processed foods and alcohol.
- Engage in Regular Physical Activity - Aim for 150 minutes per week; this translates to 5 days a week for 30 minutes. Activities such as walking, biking, dancing, or swimming are excellent options and gentle on the joints.
- Monitor and Manage Health Conditions - make sure to get your yearly preventive health care checks and monitor blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
- Prioritize Quality Sleep - Sleep can be an overlooked health hack, aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night.
- Manage Stress - Chronic stress can negatively impact the heart. Incorporate relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, gentle stretching, meditation, or mindfulness, especially before bedtime.
