LITTLETON, CO — Arapahoe County Open Space has awarded Littleton funding for three parks projects. The funds will be used for the preservation of natural and heritage areas, the enhancement of neighborhood and regional parks, and the maintenance and building of trails, parks officials said.

Funding for the Superchi Parcel at Reynolds Landing Park was awarded $90,000, officials said. A total of $253,564 has been approved for the Slaughterhouse Gulch Trail Connection and $97,110 has been approved for the Jackass Gulch Restoration and Stabilization Design.

Littleton is also receiving parks and recreation funding through Arapahoe County's annual shareback program. Around $15.7 million is being distributed to municipalities in the county, and Littleton is receiving $1.28 million.

The county runs the program each year, but "funding is even more critical in 2020 to the communities that rely on sales tax revenue to fund many recreation projects," county officials said in a public notice in June.

The funds will support local parks, trails and open space projects, county officials said.

Arapahoe County owns and manages 13 properties, from Dove Valley Regional Park in Centennial to Richmil Ranch Open Space on Colorado's Eastern Plains, and many parks and trailheads in between. In 2003 and again in 2011, voters approved a countywide quarter-cent sales and use tax to support the natural resources. For every $100 spent in Arapahoe County, 25 cents is invested directly in the outdoors. The tax will be up for renewal in 2023.
