Arapahoe County Government: Public Works And Development Releases Its 2020 Community Report

The year 2020 was a challenging time, but a pandemic could not stop Arapahoe County Public Works and Development from accomplishing their mission to serve its citizens. The department adapted, streamlined services online, and transitioned staff to work effectively and efficiently from the office to a remote setting. Through it all the department’s work in serving unincorporated Arapahoe County did not stop. 

The accomplishments for 2020 reinforce the department’s commitment to improve the quality of life for all county citizens as recognized by the American Public Works Association. In 2018, the department became the first county in Colorado to earn accreditation through APWA and the 137th in North America. Less than one percent of the nation’s public works agencies have earned this distinction. This year, the department has been working toward APWA re-accreditation for 2022.

“It was a unique year, said Bryan D. Weimer, PWLF, director of Public Works and Development. “PWD really did show why we are stellar in what we do. “We have dedication, resilience and a commitment to getting the work done.” 

Each of the department’s divisions—Building, Engineering Services, Planning, Support Services, Road and Bridge and Transportation—all accomplished critical goals in 2020. Here is a look back on an unprecedented year that was truly challenging.
