Aurora Man In 19-Hour Police Standoff Gets 100 Years In Prison

Robert Seacat, 35, fled from police after a 2015 burglary, barricading himself in a Greenwood Village home for 19 hours.

CENTENNIAL, CO -- An Aurora man fleeing police in 2015 who tried to run over an officer and then barricaded himself in a Greenwood Village home was sentenced to prison time Thursday.

Arapahoe District Court Judge Andrew Baum sentenced Robert Seacat, 35, to a total of 100 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections, a statement from the 18th Judicial District Attorney said.

A jury in September found Seacat guilty of "numerous counts including attempted manslaughter," the DA's office said. Seacat's sentence was enhanced because of his habitual offender status.

On June 3, 2015, Aurora police investigated a theft report at 9400 E. Hampden Ave., the statement from the DA's office said. An officer questioned a suspect, and the man, later identified as Seacat, fled. While fleeing, Seacat jumped into a car and tried to run over the officer. A witness told police Seacat had a gun.

Police followed Seacat to a home in the 4200 block of South Alton Way in Greenwood Village, where a home alarm system was triggered. Seacat had broken into the house, where a 9-year-old boy was home alone.

Police got the boy’s mother to come to the scene, and the scared child escaped unharmed.

Seacat remained inside and a 19-hour standoff ensued. Ultimately, tear gas, SWAT teams and a Bearcat vehicle were used to take Seacat into custody, the DA's office said.

“[Seacat] put the public at risk, he put uniformed officer at risk, and he showed no regard for anyone else," said District Attorney George Brauchler.
