Camera Inspection, Cleaning Of Littleton City Sewer System Begins

Remote camera will crawl through 175 feet of wastewater pipe in the city.

From The City of Littleton: Do you ever wonder when you go, where it goes? The City of Littleton plans to find out. In an effort to upgrade the city’s sanitary and storm sewer records, the city has contracted ACE Pipe Cleaning Inc. to document the condition and location of this important infrastructure with a complete electronic map of the system. This will allow the city to perform a risk analysis while identifying short- and long-term improvements.

Crews will send a remote camera through every foot of wastewater pipe in the city, about 175 miles, roughly the distance from Littleton to Glenwood Springs, collecting 6 to 10 terabytes of data. Just six terabytes is equal to half a million phone books stacked on top of one another! The project is expected to take about 3 to 5 months and coincides with the low flow part of the season.

The city is asking some residents to allow access to property that intersects or contains one or more manhole covers. For more information, visit the Public Works Projects page and click on the Sanitary & Storm Sewer Inspection Program project.
