Camper Shootout In Douglas Co. Ends With Carjacker Shot, Injured
An alleged carjacker is hospitalized after a shootout with a camper at Devil's Head Campground.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – A 29-year-old man, who allegedly drove a carjacked vehicle from El Paso County into a national forest shooting at passing cars, was injured in a gun battle with a camper, the Douglas County Sheriff's office said.
Around 2:10 p.m., Douglas County received word from El Paso County that the driver of a carjacked vehicle was heading north and into Pike National Forest. As the man drove, he allegedly shot at passing vehicles, ultimately stopping at a Devils' Head campground, the sheriff's office said.
The driver exited his vehicle and "approached an unsuspecting camper with a rifle which began a confrontation," the sheriff's office said. The camper, who also had a gun, shot the alleged carjacker multiple times and injured him.

Manitou Springs police and Douglas County sheriff's deputies provided emergency medical help, and the injured man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The camper's condition was not reported.
The sheriff's office declined to release the name of the injured man.

The man will face charges out of Douglas County and El Paso County, the sheriff's office said. He may face attempted murder and felony menacing charges in Douglas County.
All campsites from Devil's Head and south will be closed for at least the next 48 hours, the sheriff's office said. Please avoid the area as there is no way for through traffic from Douglas County to El Paso County.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is currently in contact with a suspect involved in an attempted car jacking out of El Paso County. There is no further threat to the community regarding that incident.
