UPDATE: Shortly before midnight September 20, Littleton Police dispatch received a 911 call of shots fired from a vehicle near Powers and Bannock.  Officers contacted a vehicle that matched the description where they encountered two parties who fled on foot. A foot pursuit took place and one of the parties entered the apartments at 183 West Powers Avenue.  As officers chased one of the suspects into the entrance, the suspect turned and fired multiple times striking the officer. Although he was shot the officer was able to return fire. The second officer returned fire as he attempted to rescue the wounded officer, but the suspect fled the scene.

The injured officer was shot multiple times and transported to a hospital.  He is in serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery.  His family is with him at this time and asks for privacy. 

The area is an active crime scene, but police do not believe there is an immediate threat to the community. The search for the suspect continues.  Officers from multiple neighboring agencies are assisting with the search and the investigation.
