Littleton Primary Results 2018: Larson In HD22, Everett Defeated

Stapleton and Polis declared winners. Larson wins by fewer than 100 votes. Weiser ahead for AG Everett loses 3-way GOP treasurer's race.

LITTLETON, CO – Littleton voters exercised their franchise Tuesday in the Democrat and Republican primaries, with procrastinators racing to the polls in Arapahoe, Douglas and Jefferson counties.

All the vote tallies had been posted by Wednesday afternoon, except for those in far-western Montrose County, where bar code problems meant Clerk staff had to count by hand. The vote totals are not final until certified by the county clerks.

The final counts made it clear that former CU Law professor Phil Weiser had won the primary in a very close race with Joe Salazar. Once the 99% tallies were in, Weiser was top vote-getter with 281,764, or 50.77 percent of the vote, with Salazar receiving 49.23 percent, or 273,218.
Weiser posted a message of unity on his campaign Facebook page.

"My focus as Attorney General will be on building partnerships to solve problems together, working to strengthen community bonds."

Colin Larson, of Littleton narrowly defeated Frank Francone to take the GOP nomination for State Senate Dist. 22. With 100 percent of counties tallied, Larson appeared to be the top vote-getter with 4,954, or 50.53% of the vote. Francone had 49.47% of the vote, or 4,850.

The two were competing for the seat vacated by Littleton's own Justin Everett, who tried, but failed, to win a three-way race for GOP nomination for state treasurer.

Larson owns a coffee shop and Francone runs a tech company. The primary battle became ugly in the waning days of their campaigns. Larson's campaign mailers referred to a past drug arrest for Francone (who admits that he once battled addiction issues). Francone, who ran as an outsider attacking the "Denver Golden-Domed Swamp," allegedly called Larson a "swamp creature." Larson will face Democrat Todd Kastetter, who's running unopposed.

Francone had not conceded as of Wednesday morning.

Jason Crow beat Levi Tillemann in the race to try to unseat Republican Congressman Mike Coffman in the 6th District. Crow is an Army veteran and lawyer at Denver's Holland & Hart firm. Tillemann's campaign has raised around $310,000, about one-fifth of the campaign cash raised by Crow $1.6 million, about one-third of that from Holland & Hart. Tillemann made national news when he released a secret recording of a national DNC honcho trying to talk him out of running. He also released a video where he pepper-sprayed himself in the eyes.
