JeffCo Slash Program Coming To Evergreen

JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — Jefferson County officials are encouraging residents to clear their property and bring tree debris to the county's slash collection site. The Jeffco Slash Program will be held every weekend until the end of October.

"Removing slash and creating a defensible space around your home is the first line of defense against wildfires," the county said in a social media post. "This is not only important for your property, but it means being a good neighbor by reducing potential hazards for the entire area."

Fire crews were called to a wildfire Thursday in Jefferson County's Deer Creek Canyon area. The blaze spread by more than 13 miles until firefighters were able to contain it.

Slash collection this week will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18 at Foothills Fire Department, Rainbow Hill Station, 28812 Rainbow Hill Road in Evergreen.

What's accepted:

• Slash – limbs, branches and tree debris
• Maximum length – 8 feet
• Maximum diameter – 6 inches
• Pine needles, tree bark, pine cones
• Leaves only accepted at Thunder Valley Park location

What's not accepted:

• Household trash
• Tree stumps
• Construction material and lumber
• Metal material of any kind
• Rocks
• Yard waste/grass clippings

• August 17-18 @ Foothills Fire Department, Rainbow Hill Station
• August 24-25 @ Evergreen Fire Department, Station 8
• Aug. 31 - Sept. 1 @ Settlers Drive Property
• September 7-8 @ Wagon Wheel Open Space
