Colton, age 12, got a little Love from the DC Sheriff's office after having a "bummer summer" last year when he sustained a brain injury.
PARKER, CO – A boy, age 12, who was struck by a hit-and-run driver, knocked down and suffered a brain injury last summer in Parker was honored by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office this week.
The department and Sheriff Tony Spurlock invited the family of Colton Love to "Colton Love Day at the DC Sheriff's Office" and gave the boy and his family a tour of the sheriff's offices.
"Colton was involved in a hit and run last year and left for dead... needless to say it was a really rough year... but we wanted to help him make up for it the best way we know how..." the Douglas County Sheriff's office posted on Facebook. Colton's day included "[P]olice escorts, fast driving (at Code303 Driving Track), blowing stuff up, trying on gear, and showing what our K9’s can do."

Kimberley Miller, 49, of Parker was sentenced to a month in jail after pleading guilty Feb. 5 to leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury. Other charges were dropped.

On July 25, 2017, Miller struck Colton with her Lexus on Stonegate Parkway in Douglas County. Children had set up a donut and lemonade stand at the intersection of Creekview Drive. Witnesses told authorities that Miller's Lexus hit the boy and kept on driving.
Acting on a tip that the accident had broken a passenger mirror from the impact, lead investigator Deputy F. Claudio and others tracked down Miller and her Lexus, the mirror of which had been duct-taped, an arrest affidavit said. When they interviewed her, Miller claimed she "had no recollection of any accident and was elusive and uncooperative," the DA's office said.
Colton Love was diagnosed with a skull fracture, a concussion and a bruised lung. He is now recovered.
"The Douglas County Sheriff put together a really special day for Colton, since we had such a bum summer last summer," Allison Love said.
