Littleton Man Accused Of Arson, Attempted Murder: Charges Filed

LITTLETON, CO — A man has been charged with attempted murder and arson after a fire broke out Dec. 21 at the Greystoke Apartments in Littleton. The fire left several people injured and many displaced.
Alex Duran, 29, was charged with 30 counts, including attempted murder, first-degree arson, assault and criminal mischief, the First Judicial District Attorney's office announced Tuesday.
The fire broke out at the six-unit condominium building in the 8400 block of South Reed Street, where Duran lived, Jeffco officials said.

Three people suffered injuries when they were forced to jump from a second-floor apartment, authorities said.
When deputies arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames and they were told that people were still inside the building.

Deputies used a neighbor's ladder and assisted a father and son out of a third floor residence, authorities said.
South Metro Fire Rescue and West Metro Fire Rescue worked together to extinguish the fire.
One deputy and one firefighter were taken to hospitals and treated for injuries. The fire impacted 19 victims and the homeowner association. It also damaged or destroyed six residential units as well as common areas, including the stairwell, the DA's office said.
Duran was later found, taken into custody and interviewed. He was booked into the Jeffco jail, where he remains on a $1 million bond. A judge also ordered a mental health evaluation for him.
Duran's preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 23.
