3 Charged After CT Teen Accidentally Shoots Himself In Head: Reports

Three people have been charged following an accidental shooting in September. Police said there were 23 guns in the home.

WATERTOWN, CT — Three people have been charged in connection with a teen accidentally shooting himself in the head, according to reports.

The incident occurred Sept. 30 when a 14-year-old boy shot himself in the head with an unsecured .22 revolver he was playing with while he was home alone.

The teen's grandmother called 911 reporting the boy had fallen down the stairs of the Hadley Street home. Police arrived at the home and found him on the first floor bleeding heavily from his head. He was conscious but incoherent.

Police followed a trail of blood to a bedroom used by an adult family member where they found an empty holster for a revolver. The boy was transported to Waterbury Hospital, then taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

He has since been released from the hospital, WTNH News-8 reported.

Police found 23 guns in the home, many of which were not secured.

Three of the teen's relatives who live in the home were charged.

Elizabeth Salcevski, 59, the teen's grandmother, and her partner, Jose Soto-Berrios, 55, were charged with one count of criminal negligent storage of a firearm, four counts of risk of injury to a minor, and four counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, FOX 61 reported.

Salcevski was held on $200,000 and is scheduled for arraignment in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday.

Soto-Berrios was held on a $200,000 bond and transferred to Waterbury Superior Court on Tuesday.

The boy's mother, Patricia Milot, 36, was charged with four counts of risk of injury to a minor, one count for each child living in the home, according to WTNH News-8. She was held on $25,000 bond.
