6 Connecticut Graduate Schools Make U.S. News 2024 Ranking

Six colleges in Connecticut were ranked among the Best Graduate Schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report.

CONNECTICUT — Six colleges in Connecticut were ranked among the Best Graduate Schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report, which released its annual rankings Tuesday.

The rankings, intended as a guide for prospective graduate students, evaluate programs in a variety of disciplines, including business, education, engineering, health, nursing, public affairs and science.

The rankings for best medical schools, best engineering schools and best clinical psychology program rankings will be released at a later date.

This year’s edition continues to place emphasis on the results that education can bring, while expanding data on specialty graduate degree programs.

"Deciding where to attend graduate school can be formidable, considering the wealth of schools with distinctive and quality programs," LaMont Jones, managing editor for education at U.S. News, said in a news release. "The Best Graduate Schools rankings and related content can be a helpful starting point in empowering prospective students to identify the best fit for their educational needs to ultimately achieve career success."

In Connecticut, the following grad schools were recognized:

Business (Full-Time):

No. 7 Yale University (No. 8 last year)

Education:

No. 34 University of Connecticut (31)

No. 197 Central Connecticut State University (206)

No. 227 University of Hartford (226)

Law

No. 1 Yale University (Tied with Stanford University, and No. 1 last year)

No. 55 University of Connecticut (71)

No. 143 Quinnipiac University (146)

Nursing:

No. 28 Yale University (28)

No. 58 Fairfield University (73)

No. 87 Quinnipiac University (73)

Because each program is different, the rankings methodologies vary by discipline and graduate degree-level.

Among highlights from the rankings:

University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) and Stanford University tied for the No. 1 spot in the category full-time MBA. The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and Northwestern University tied for the No. 3 spot.

As indicated above, Stanford University and Yale University tied for the top law school spot. University of Chicago is No. 3, while Duke University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania and University of Virginia tied for No. 4.

Teachers College at Columbia University and University of Wisconsin tied as the No. 1 graduate schools for education, and three schools tied for No. 3: Northwestern University, the University of Pennsylvania and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Emory University (Woodruff) and Johns Hopkins University tied for the No. 1 place to get your Master's Degree in nursing. Duke University placed at No. 3.
