Amazon Prime Customers Could Get Up To $200 Refund: What To Know

Some Amazon Prime customers could receive refunds totaling as much as $200 under expanded terms of the company's $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.

Amazon has already issued more than $845 million in refunds to eligible Prime customers as of September, according to the FTC. Under a revised settlement order, automatic refunds will continue through April 2027.

So, who qualifies?

According to the FTC, customers must meet three requirements:

• They must be U.S. Amazon Prime customers
• They must have signed up through one of the enrollment methods challenged by the FTC or unsuccessfully tried to cancel through Amazon's online cancellation process between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025
• They must have used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period following enrollment.

Those benefits include services such as Prime Music and Prime Video products offered free to Prime subscribers.

Customers do not need to file a claim or fill out any forms. Amazon will automatically send payments to eligible customers by mailed check, PayPal or Venmo. Payments expire 60 days after they're issued.

Eligible customers can receive refunds for their Prime subscription fees totaling up to $200. Earlier payments were capped at $51, but the revised order allows Amazon to issue additional payments of up to $149, according to the FTC.

The settlement stems from an FTC lawsuit accusing Amazon of enrolling customers in Prime without their knowledge or consent and making subscriptions difficult to cancel. Of the $2.5 billion settlement, $1.5 billion is designated for customer refunds and $1 billion is a civil penalty.

The FTC is also warning customers to watch for scams tied to the refunds. The agency says it will not contact consumers about their Amazon refunds, and neither the FTC nor Amazon will ask customers to pay money to receive one.

Eligible customers are expected to receive their refunds by April 2027.
