The victim, Olivia Videtto, a five-year-old girl, was transported via Life Star helicopter to a hospital in Hartford for what was initially believed to be a serious, but non-life-threatening, injury, police said Monday.

The Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department indicated the patient had suffered a head injury in a fall.

State police learned today the girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The victim has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The incident remains under investigation, according to police. However, police said nothing criminal has been found.

“Connecticut State Police extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and the Harwinton community,” police said.

Fran Thompson, superintendent of schools for the Region 10 Public Schools, said Videtto was a kindergarten student at Harwinton Consolidated School.

“Our hearts are with Olivia's family, friends, classmates, and all those who knew and loved her,” Thompson said, in an announcement to the school community. “We extend our deepest condolences during this unimaginable time.”

Crisis support teams will be available for students, families, and staff, according to Thompson.
