The National Weather Service said in an update Tuesday that a "slow-moving system will bring multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms today through Wednesday."
"There is potential for life threatening flash flooding. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible..." the weather service states.
A flood watch has been issued for the entirety of the state except Windham and New London counties.
Up to 7 inches of rain could fall in parts of the state, forecasters said.
Here are specific forecast details from the National Weather Service based on where you are:
Fairfield/New Haven County: A flood watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday until Wednesday evening.
"A slow moving low pressure system will bring multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms to the area today through Wednesday. Average rainfall amounts are expected to be between 3 and 5 inches with localized higher amounts. Peak hourly rainfall rates could be as high as 2 to 3 inches in the heaviest showers and thunderstorms," the weather service states.
Middlesex County: A flood watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday until Wednesday evening.
"A slow moving low pressure system will bring multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms to the area today through Wednesday. Average rainfall amounts are expected to be between 2 and 3 inches with localized higher amounts. Peak hourly rainfall rates could be as high as 1.5 to 2.5 inches in the heaviest showers and thunderstorms," the weather service states.
New London County: A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for New Lonon County.
"There is a marginal risk of excessive rainfall through 8 AM Wednesday and then a slight risk thereafter on Wednesday. A slow moving low pressure system will bring heavy showers and thunderstorms with potential for isolated to scattered flash flooding where the heaviest rain occurs. Confidence is not high enough at this time to issue a Flood Watch, but the potential for a Watch is still there," the weather service states.

Hartford/Tolland County: A flood watch is in effect from this afternoon until Wednesday evening.
"Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to develop Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday across the Watch area. The heaviest rainfall is expected Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Excessive rainfall rates are possible, which could trigger instances of street flooding and contribute to rises on rivers, streams and larger river basins. Two to three inches of rain are expected in the Watch area, with locally higher amounts possible especially along the eastern slopes of the Berkshires and portions of western Hartford County," the weather service states.
Litchfield County: A flood watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday until Wednesday evening.
"Periods of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms capable of heavy downpours arrive this afternoon from west to east and continue tonight with rainfall rates reaching or exceeding 1 to 2 inches per hour at times," the weather service states. "Despite recent dry conditions, such high rainfall rates in a short period of time can result in flash flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas and where heavy rain repeatedly impacts a given area. Steady rain continues into Wednesday before transitioning to showers Wednesday night into Thursday. Three day rainfall totals likely range from 1 to 3 inches with isolated amounts of 3 to 7 inches across portions of the eastern Catskills, Litchfield County and central and southern Taconics due to upslope enhancements."
Windham County: No weather advisories or watches have been issued but here is a detailed forecast for the region from the National Weather Service.
Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 63. Southeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 73. East wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog before 9pm. Low around 61. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 71. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
