Man Accused Of Stabbing Bar Employee In The Face: Stamford Police

STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford man is accused of stabbing a bar employee in the face after being removed from the establishment earlier that night, according to Stamford police, who swiftly identified the suspect with the help of social media.

Sebastian Mardirossian, 36, turned himself in on Monday morning, Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

An arrest warrant charged Mardirossian with second-degree assault, breach of peace and criminal trespass.

On July 20 at 12:38 a.m., police were alerted by the Stamford Hospital Emergency Department of a victim with a facial injury, Conklin said.

Earlier in the night, a man was being disruptive at Tiernan's Bar & Restaurant on Main Street, and he was kicked out of the business, Conklin said.

"At some point, he entered via a rear door and went up to the employee he had been interacting with and stabbed him with a sharp object in the face. The wound required 16 stitches to close," according to Conklin, who said police are unsure what kind of weapon was used.

On the evening of July 23, the Stamford Police Department posted on Facebook a security camera still photo of a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans and asked the public for help identifying him.

"This illustrates how important a tool social media is. Within days, we had several calls identifying the suspect in this," Conklin said. "This was done in a very timely fashion. We were concerned because this was a very aggressive and violent assault. We wanted to get this guy into custody."

Mardirossian's photo was included in a lineup, and the victim positively identified him as the person who stabbed him, Conklin said.

Stamford Det. Kerilyn Whitehead secured an arrest warrant and was able to contact Mardirossian, who turned himself in on Monday.

Mardirossian was given a court-set bond of $75,000.
