Tow Truck Operator Struck, Killed In Bloomfield: PD

The accident happened Tuesday evening on Tunxis Avenue, according to police.

BLOOMFIELD, CT — A motorist struck and killed a tow truck operator Tuesday evening, according to police.

Captain James Salvatore said the accident happened on Tunxis Avenue around 7:37 p.m. The initial report came in as an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

When police arrived, they found an unresponsive man lying in the road near the tow truck.

The victim suffered severe head trauma, and emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.

Police confirmed the victim was the operator of the tow truck, according to Salvatore.

The vehicle which hit the victim was found on its roof on Tunxis Avenue. Its driver, who remained on scene, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, police said.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation, which is ongoing. No charges have been filed, police said.

Police as of Wednesday morning had not released the identities of the victim or the motorist.
