Connecticut could be in for a stormy weekend, as meteorologists say there is potential for a coastal storm starting Friday and lasting into early next week.
WTNH meteorologists say it could mean a "prolonged period of impacts," through Monday, with "strong winds, heavy rain, and coastal flooding possible."
The station warns there could be high tide flooding along the shoreline.
In the short term, today through Thursday are expected to be dry in Connecticut, with daytime high temperatures in the 60s.
WTNH predicts rain and gusty winds will arrive Friday. The station is forecasting rain and wind will last through Saturday, and start to taper off on Sunday, with clearing and residual wind on Monday.
WFSB, meanwhile, is also predicting dry weather through Friday. As for its weekend forecast, it says long-range data models are not in agreement. The weekend weather will depend on the track of a coastal storm, according to its meteorologists.
"An area of low pressure develops offshore midweek and moves in our direction. As it does so, it encounters high pressure to our north. If it comes close enough to Southern New England, we'd have a greater likelihood for periods of rain and a gusty wind," WFSB reports. "This is currently the scenario playing out from the (European model). Meanwhile, we could see less of an impact according to the (American model). At this time, according to the (American model), it's a glancing blow with showers and breezy conditions."
AccuWeather also is monitoring the storm's track, which will influence its impact.
"Southeastern New England could face the full wrath of a powerful nor'easter or subtropical storm with high winds, rain and coastal flooding," AccuWeather reported. "A full-blown nor'easter could lead to major travel disruptions due to flooding rain, wind gusts that could trigger power outages and significant coastal flooding."
