State Police Bomb Squad, DEEP, FBI Converge On Windham Property For Chemical Clean-up

Multiple chemicals were left behind in a building by a deceased resident, officials said.

WINDHAM, CT — A clean-up effort is underway on Follett Road after a resident died and left behind potentially dangerous chemicals.

James Fowler, a spokesperson for the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, said its Emergency Response Unit has been working with the state police's bomb squad and the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the property.

Officials are currently classifying and disposing of the chemicals, which were left in a building by the deceased resident, Fowler said.

DEEP is focused on the proper disposal of non-explosive chemicals, while the bomb squad is handling anything that may be an "energetic material," Fowler said.

The work started last week and is expected to continue for several more days.

"From the DEEP perspective, there is no hazard to the public or the environment," Fowler said.
