Bear Enters Truck, Wreaks Havoc In CT Town

A bear got into a resident's truck and caused extensive damage, according to a report.

CORNWALL, CT — A bear got into a Cornwall resident's truck over the weekend, causing extensive damage, according to NBC CT. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) responded after a resident called reporting a bear in his vehicle.

EnCon Police said the animal caused extensive damage to the truck's interior and even removed a car seat. An officer scared the bear away using a bean bag round.

"Black bears are becoming increasingly common in Connecticut as the population continues to grow and expand," the DEEP says on its website. "Reports of bear sightings, even in heavily populated residential areas, have been on the rise. "

The DEEP notes that easily accessible food sources often lead to encounters with bears.

"Bears normally leave an area once they have sensed a human. If you see a bear, enjoy it from a distance. Aggression by bears towards humans is exceptionally rare."
