Rapidly Expanding Grocery Chain Has Big Plans For CT

A high-end grocery store intends to add up to 40 stores in southern New England, according to a report.

WEYMOUTH, MA — Sprouts Farmers Market is charting a significant expansion into southern New England. The grocer is planning to open 30 to 40 stores in the region, according to Boston Business Journal.

In Connecticut, the chain plans to open its first location in Westport.

The grocer has reportedly applied to build a 25,000-square-footstore at 1460 Post Road East, where a Pier 1 Imports store once stood, and now holds a BevMax store and Julian's Pizza Bar & Kitchen.

There's also a store opening in Milford at a site on Boston Post Road slated for 2027. Sprouts is planning to move into the former Hooters restaurant site in a 23,000-square-foot space.

Sprouts is also slated to open its first Massachusetts store in Weymouth in 2028. The business will debut alongside a 7 Brew coffee shop at the site of a former Honda dealership, Boston.com reported. Construction is expected to begin this spring.

The organic grocery chain, which is based in Phoenix, has over 480 stores in 25 states. Sprouts opened its first store in New York earlier this year, along with opening stores in Virginia, Texas and Florida, according to its website.

Sprouts is "one of the largest and fastest growing specialty retailers of fresh, natural and organic food in the United States," according to its website.
