Beloved Brewery Closes After 8 Years In CT City

NEW BRITAIN, CT — Five Churches Brewing in New Britain announced that it would close after eight years in business. The last day the brewery and taproom was open was Monday.

The owners posted on Facebook saying that the time the brewery was open was a "blessing" and also a "great challenge."

"We have poured our time, energy, and resources into rebuilding and reimagining the brewery," they wrote. "We believed deeply in what we were creating and were hopeful about the future. Unfortunately, the financial burden of rebuilding has reached a point where continuing operations is no longer viable. At the end of the day it was a decision that was made together as a family. We are ready to move on from this venture, and on to something new."

They go on to thank all their customers and staff as well as the city of New Britain.

In 2018, Phil Lemnotis proposed the brewery in a long-vacant industrial building. He and his family worked to transform the space into a brewery with large windows, original brick and flooring, a wooden bar and a second-floor taproom, according to The Hartford Courant.

The brewery was known for its variety of craft beers, wood-fired pizza, live music and its gluten-free Weerder.
