Beloved TV Meteorologist In Scary Rollover Vehicle Crash

WTNH-TV co-chief meteorologist Joe Furey walked away from a scary Thursday morning rollover crash on the Arrigoni Bridge in Portland, the station announced.

The News 8 SUV came to rest on its roof after it was struck by another vehicle and rolled over multiple times.

"We are all so grateful Joe Furey is OK after being involved in a rollover crash this morning on the Arrigoni Bridge in Portland," wrote Alyssa Rae Taglia on Facebook. "Joe’s SUV was hit by another car and flipped several times. Thankfully, he was wearing his seatbelt."

The driver of the other vehicle was reportedly detained by police in connection with the crash.

Well-wishes poured in on Thursday from fans who could not believe the images Taglia posted.

"I was so shocked to hear about Joe!" one fan wrote. "My thoughts and prayers are with him."

Another added, "OMG thank God you're okay Joe Furey ! Your guardian angel was right by your side."

Furey, the station's popular meteorologist with more than 40 years in the business, obtained his Bachelor's degree from Villanova University and did graduate studies in meteorology from Western Connecticut State University, according to his bio.

He grew up in Norwalk, graduating from Central Catholic High School, and like so many teens in that city, one of his early jobs was at Stew Leonard's.
