CT Coronavirus: 22 More Hospitalizations As Cases Climb

Another six deaths from the coronavirus were reported overnight, bringing Connecticut's death toll to 4,595.

CONNECTICUT — The coronavirus positivity rate jumped nearly 2 percent overnight to 4.1 percent, the highest since early June. Twenty-two additional hospitalizations were reported.

The state Department of Public Health reported 538 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total to 68,637 since the pandemic began.

Another six people died from complications associated with the virus, increasing the state's death toll to 4,595. Hartford County leads has the most deaths with 1,470, 37 more than Fairfield County. New Haven Country is third with 1,126.

The spike in cases was "not unexpected" as infection rates were trending up around the country, Gov. Ned Lamont said during a news conference Tuesday, noting the United States had an all-time high in average daily cases Monday.

Testing for the coronavirus continues at a robust pace, with 13,039 performed in the past 24-hour reporting period. A total of 2,218,298 tests have been performed.
