CT Coronavirus: Hospitalizations Decline For Second Straight Day
Gov. Ned Lamont said the latest news is definitely "another step in the right direction" but we still have a long way to go.
CONNECTICUT — On a day Connecticut saw its total number of confirmed new coronavirus cases approach 18,000 and the number of deaths rise beyond 1,100 there was also some good news. For weeks Gov. Ned Lamont said the number of new hospital admissions was the best barometer on how we're doing presently with regard to the coronavirus.
For the first time since the pandemic began Connecticut saw a decline in hospitalizations by 18 on Saturday and on Sunday there was another decline of 37 hospitalizations. Officials have said we'll need to see a decline in new hospital admissions for a 14 day period before the state could begin to seriously consider reopening at least in a phased in approach.
Overall there are 17,962 confirmed positive coronavirus cases in Connecticut and an increase of 412 over the past 24 hours. An additional 41 coronavirus-related deaths were reported bringing that total to 1,127 and the number of hospitalizations declined by 37 and is now at 1,901.

“For the second straight day, the number of people hospitalized in Connecticut due to complications caused by COVID-19 has slightly decreased, another step in the right direction and another sign that the efforts we’ve been taking as a community are having an impact on slowing the outbreak,” Lamont said. “Whether this continues is dependent upon on the actions each of us takes over the next several days and weeks. This isn’t over – we lost another 41 Connecticut residents, and we mourn for their lives. Together, we can have an impact on flattening the curve, but if people tell you the pandemic has ended – they are wrong.”
