CT Coronavirus: Infection Rate Up, 44 New Deaths Reported

Connecticut's coronavirus trends featured a slight drop in hospitalizations and around 1,900 new cases.

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut reported another 1,915 positive coronavirus cases Wednesday and a daily positive test rate of 6.29 percent.

Net hospitalizations decreased by 17 patients down to 1,124 currently hospitalized.

The state also reported another 44 coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the state total up to 6,726.

Connecticut’s average daily case rate was 54 per 100,000 residents between Jan. 13 and 20, according to the Atlantic’s Covid Tracking Project. The U.S. average is 59, Massachusetts is at 68 and New York is at 74.

Connecticut continues to outpace the vast majority of other states in vaccine distribution. Around 213,000 people have received at least their first dose and 25,000 have gotten two doses as of Jan. 20, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state ranks 4th per capita for the number of people who have received at least one dose and 7th per capita for vaccine doses administered.

Connecticut has administered around 56 percent of vaccine doses it has received to date, which is 7th highest nationally among states.

Connecticut officially moved to phase 1b Monday — the state is focusing on residents who are 75 or older first before opening up for the 65 and older group for scheduling early February, Gov. Ned Lamont said Tuesday. Frontline essential workers and people 16 and older with high-risk conditions are projected to begin scheduling appointments in late February or early March.
