CONNECTICUT — Gov. Ned Lamont said Connecticut will not be moving on to its third reopening phase. The third phase includes reopening bars and increased dining capacity.

Eviction moratorium

Lamont will also extend the state’s eviction moratorium to Oct. 1 due to the unemployment situation in the state. Funds supplied by the federal government will also be used to provide relief for landlords.

Lamont’s more than 70 executive orders related to the pandemic would end and each matter would have to be voted on as a separate item by the Legislature, unless lawmakers agree to continue his emergency powers, the governor said.

CT applying for federal unemployment enhancement

Connecticut will apply for a $300-per-person unemployment enhancement from the federal government.

The $600 weekly federal unemployment enhancement stopped at the end of July. Congress has been unable to agree on a new deal; President Donald Trump signed an executive order for the $300 benefit.

Lamont said that what Connecticut pays already in unemployment benefits to claimants is enough to qualify for the state’s share.
