As BA.5 Variant Spreads CT COVID-19 Cases Continue To Rise, Town-By Town Updates
New Haven County moved into the CDC's highest warning level for COVID-19 infections. Most other counties are in the medium warning level.
CONNECTICUT — Connecticut reported 4,789 COVID-19 cases during the most recent seven-day reporting period, which was up 11 percent from the prior period.
New Haven County recently moved into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's high warning level for COVID-19 infections. The CDC advises New Haven County residents to wear a mask while indoors in public.
Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex and New London counties are in the medium warning level, and Tolland, Hartford and Windham counties are in the low warning level.

The state positive test rate also increased from 10.59 percent to 11.79 percent. Hospitalizations crept up by 16 patients, up to a net of 328 hospitalized with the virus.
State officials reported another nine deaths over seven days, bringing the total virus death toll to 11,102.

The BA.5 variant continues to spread across the United States and notably infected President Joe Biden. The president, who is up-to-date on his vaccines, had relatively minor symptoms.
The U.S. had about 131,000 daily reported COVID-19 cases as of July 27, which was a 3 percent increase from 14 days prior, according to the New York Times. The number of people hospitalized with the virus was about 43,700, which was an 11 percent increase.
Cases are likely being vastly undercounted as many people have switched to at-home testing.
