New COVID-19 Updates For Every Town In CT: Here Are The Latest Numbers

Here is a town-by-town look at the latest coronavirus numbers in Connecticut. The latest metrics reveal some good and concerning news.

CONNECTICUT — Reported coronavirus infections are coming down in Connecticut after a spring uptick, but case counts still remain elevated.

The state Department of Public Health reported 3,219 cases over seven days on Thursday and a positive test rate of 8.81 percent. Seven-day case counts surpassed 10,000 in mid-May and the positive test rate reached 14.19 percent on May 20, but both metrics have steadily declined.

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 has also declined in recent weeks. The state most recently peaked at 383 hospitalized COVID-19 patients on May 25; there are now fewer than 300.

Still, 149 of 169 Connecticut towns remain in the state’s red zone for coronavirus infection rates.

The CDC lists Fairfield and New London counties in its lowest community warning level, while the rest of the state’s counties are in the medium warning level. The CDC county warning level takes case rates and hospital capacity into account.

There is some debate about how useful COVID-19 test figures are now that many people test positive on home tests, which often go unreported.

COVID-19 particle concentrations in New Haven wastewater increased in the early part of May, but were on a downward trend by roughly the middle of the month.

Nationally, cases have been increasing since early April. The country averaged more than 109,000 daily cases on June 8, according to the CDC.
