“As long as the price of oil stays elevated, the price at the pump will struggle to fall,” said Alec Slatky, director of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast in a statement. “Consumers may be catching a little break from March’s record-high prices, but don’t expect any dramatic drops.”

A few domestic and international events could push the price of oil up or down. Continued COVID-19 lockdowns in Shanghai could decrease oil demand throughout China, which would put downward pressure on prices.
The European Union hasn't decided on Russian oil sanctions. An EU embargo on Russian oil would push prices up globally, AAA predicts.
Domestic gasoline demand recently increased and will likely continue to increase as summer driving season begins. This would lead to higher prices.
