DUI Checkpoint Locations, Extra Roving Patrols Announced In CT: Here's Where

State police announced DUI checkpoints for the 2022 Labor Day weekend.

CONNECTICUT — State police announced two specific DUI checkpoints, plus roving patrols throughout the state ahead of the Labor Day weekend.

One checkpoint will be at the Merge of I-91 northbound near exit 16 and Route 15 northbound exit 67 in Meriden. The checkpoint will start at 6 p.m. Sunday and finish at 2 a.m. Monday.

Another checkpoint is scheduled for New Haven Monday into Tuesday at the I-91 exit 3 on and off ramps near Orange Street. The checkpoint starts at 8:30 p.m. Monday and will finish at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Additionally, state police will conduct roving DUI patrols throughout the entire holiday weekend.

More than 11,600 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2020 involving an alcohol-impaired driver, which was a 14 percent increase from 2019.

State police made 50 DUI arrests over the July 4 holiday weekend, which was a sharp uptick from the 26 arrests made during the 2021 July 4 weekend.

Connecticut law enforcement will participate in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over impaired driving awareness campaign this holiday weekend.

“Last year, across the country, a drunk-driving crash killed someone every 45 minutes,” Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Joe Giulietti said in a statement. “Driving while impaired is illegal, and it takes lives. We urge all Connecticut motorists to use caution this Labor Day weekend and make plans for a sober ride.”
