CT Man Among 3 Killed In Small Plane Crash In Western MA: Reports

A student pilot, a flight instructor and the owner of the flight school were killed when in the crash in a wooded area, the reports said.

MASSACHUSETTS — A Connecticut man was among three people who were killed Sunday in a plane crash in a remote wooded area of western Massachusetts, according to reports.

Chad Davidson, 29, of Woodstock, Connecticut; Fredrika Ballard, 53, of Southwick, Massachusetts, and William Hampton, 68, of Indian Orchard, Massachusetts, all were killed in the crash, Boston 25 reported.

Davidson was a student pilot; Ballard was the owner of Fly Lugu Flight School in Westfield, Massachusetts, and Hampton was a flight instructor at the school, WCVB 5 reported.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash of the plane, a Beecraft Baron 55 owned by the flight school, CBS News Boston reported.

The crash was reported by people who were walking their dogs and saw the plane go down, WTNH.com reported.

Firefighters removed the three victims from the wreckage, which was found in a small clearing in the Leyden Wildlife Management Area about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, the reports said, quoting state police.

The plane had taken off from Barnes Airport in Westfield shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday and the crash happened about 11:30 a.m., the reports said.
