CONNECTICUT — Connecticut Patch readers overwhelmingly support suspending state and federal gas taxes to help curtail pain at the pump.

Gov. Ned Lamont, legislative Republican leaders and Republican candidate for governor Bob Stefanowski have all proposed various ways to knock down the gas tax. Connecticut's gas tax system is a bit convoluted.

Lamont wants to end the 25-cent excise tax through June 30. Republicans called for suspending the gross receipts tax on gasoline, which they said would save about 26 cents per gallon. Stefanowski said the state should stop all gas taxes until the beginning of 2023.

About 72 percent of respondents said they have changed their overall driving habits due to higher gas prices.
