CT School District Locking Up Students' Phones: Report
Students at a Torrington middle school will have to hand over their phones at the beginning of each day.
TORRINGTON, CT — Torrington Middle School has begun a new "cell phone lock-up" program, according to WTNH News-8. Each morning when students arrive at school, they will place their phones in a Yondr pouch, a magnetic pouch that locks up the phone, and will receive their phones back at the end of the school day.
The Board of Education voted to approve the plan due to out-of-control cell phone usage during the school day, WTNH News-8 reported.
Students began a petition against the plan, saying they would be unable to communicate with loved ones during an emergency and that they use cell phones for learning.
