PLAINFIELD, CT — Connecticut state police are seeking the identities of at least two suspects involved in an ATM larceny at a Plainfield rest area Monday morning.

The incident was reported at 11:11 a.m., when a witness spotted a white man tampering with an ATM and looking into parked cars at an Interstate 395 northbound service plaza, according to police.

Police said they arrived and saw a man fleeing across the highway to a black BMW sports utility vehicle with Pennsylvania license plates speed away on Interstate 395 southbound.

"When troopers attempted to stop the BMW, several items were thrown from the vehicle and later recovered, which included a backpack containing approximately $52,000 in $20 bills, a mobile hotspot, and an iPhone," police added.

Officers said they stopped the chase as the car continued south on I-395. They reviewed surveillance footage from earlier in the day and saw two people in the same BMW driving by the plaza around 7:15 a.m.

Later, two white men, "possibly the same individuals dressed differently," were seen entering the Northbound Exxon Mobile Gas Station store at different times, police said.

They added: "One suspect, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and tan pants, used an electronic device to remove money from a Citibank ATM. His accomplice wore a white Nike short-sleeve shirt and tan pants. Both men [wore] white shoes, black caps, a tan waist bag, and sunglasses."

Police are urging anyone with information on the suspects' identities, whereabouts, or vehicle, to call Detective Patrick O'Brien of the Eastern District Major Crime Squad at (860) 896-3233.
