He left the Connecticut station this summer after 12 years.

When Mark Zinni left WFSB-TV this summer after 12 years, fans wondered what happened?

One day the popular evening news anchor was on the air, the next day his bio vanished from the station's website, and he was gone.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Zinni explained that it was time for a change.

"After years of incredible memories, countless stories, breaking news, late nights and more laughter than I can remember, it’s time to say goodbye with peace and love," he wrote.

When or if he'll return to the air waves is unclear, as Zinni is not disclosing his future plans.

"You may see me again on TV in Connecticut, Cleveland or just out and about on Cape Cod," he wrote. "But for now, I’m very happy relaxing and forgetting the day of the week."

Before WFSB, Zinni, an Ohio native, held jobs at WJW in Cleveland, Ohio; WPRI in Providence, Rhode Island; WICU in Erie, Pennsylvania; and WTOV in Steubenville, Ohio.

He is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University, with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Zinni thanked his WFSB bosses who hired him in 2014, and the colleagues and fans who supported him through the years.

"I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best people on both sides of the camera," he wrote. "More importantly, I made friendships that will last far beyond any newsroom, station or job title.

"To everyone who watched over the years, I just want to say thank you. I see so many wonderful people every day and you’re all so kind. It means so much."

Well-wishes are pouring in to the post.

"You are missed!" one fan wrote. "Wishing you much joy & success in all your future adventures."

Another added, "Big loss for channel 3. Wishing you the best of luck."

"God will continue to bless your life's journey," another fan wrote. "Thanks for helping us in our great state of CT."
