UPDATE AT NOON: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for all of Connecticut until 8 p.m. Thursday.

CONNECTICUT — Not only will we have to contend with heat and humidity that makes it feel like 100 degrees, but we'll need to prepare for the chance of a severe thunderstorm Thursday afternoon.

A heat advisory is in effect statewide and there is a chance for a strong-to-severe thunderstorm in the afternoon and early evening hours. The best chance for severe weather is in western, central and northern sections of the state. Eastern parts of the state may still see strong storms, according to the weather service.

On Friday temperatures cool down slightly, still above 90 degrees, and the heat and humidity returns again this weekend, especially on Sunday. We'll be below 90 degrees on Monday, finally. We may see more storms late Sunday and on Monday, according to the weather service.

Southern Connecticut weather updates for Thursday via the weather service

A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. Heat index values in the upper 90s to around 100. Heat indices may remain in the low 90s on Friday, but may increase again this weekend along with hot temperatures.

The best chance for storms Thursday is in the afternoon and some may be "severe with the main threat damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. Also, some hail to quarter size (1.00" diameter) cannot be ruled out. SPC has continued with mostly a marginal risk across our area with a small portion of Putnam County and interior CT in a slight risk."

"Any convection would be relatively quick moving, so flash flooding is unlikely," the weather service added.

Northern Connecticut weather updates for Thursday via the weather service

A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. Heat index values up to 101.

"Severe weather threat continues this afternoon, mainly across the interior. Plenty of instability...
with decent .... support (for) a few strong to severe storms, focused across interior MA into CT...Storms could develop in western MA as early as noon, but main threat will likely be 2-8 pm....Damaging wind will be the main threat, although...can`t rule out an isolated tornado...but this is a low probability."
